Hello Martin and welcome to the hot seat! Could you start off by telling the readers about when you started playing the game and list the accomplishments you're most proud of?

I bought my first Magic cards in the form of a Revised starter so that's quite a while back. Since then it has been on and off with playing Magic but I've always kept an interest for the game even when I didn't have time to play.

My biggest success in Magic is my Pro Tour win in 2015 and I'm immensely proud of that; at the time I hadn't played a Pro Tour in about five years so I was very determined to do well at the PT. Through a friend I was able to join an actual testing team and for the first time work in structured way to learn the metagame and drafting, so even though I was lucky to make it to the top I also felt that I came prepared.

Back in 2015, you won Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir playing an aggressive red strategy, and lately I know you picked up Blue/White Control in Modern. Tell us about the art of deck selection and how you master a wide range of archetypes.

I've always enjoyed playing controlling decks. Being able to have long games with many decisions is something I enjoy, so given the choice I would choose control. However, I would not shy away from playing any deck if I felt it would be the strongest choice in a certain metagame.

Choosing a deck depends on two things – metagame and your knowledge about the deck.

Especially in Standard, metagaming is an important issue. Keeping taps of current decks is very important when you have to fine tune your own 75. In Modern it's more important to know your deck and the interaction you'll face along the way since the format is so diverse.

However I would always choose a deck I have played several times and feel confident with rather than picking up another deck just because I think it would be better in the metagame, given that I don't have enough time to play and fine tune the other deck as well.

I know you've always enjoyed Limited and that you are a very strong Drafter. What is currently your favorite Constructed format and why?

At a Grand Prix level or lower I enjoy playing Modern the most because the format is so diverse and you can gain a huge edge in a match just by knowing your deck and its‘ key interactions very well.

For the Pro Tour I would prefer Standard. A big part of the preparation for a Pro Tour involves guessing the metagame, coming up with new decks or just adding unexpected cards that can beat the top decks and that is just not so easy in Modern since 95% or more of a Pro Tour field will take the safe route and play already mostly defined decks.

A few months ago you were blessed with fatherhood to a beautiful baby girl. Talk about how you balance family and high level Magic, and how does your preparation and amount of hours played on a weekly basis compare to before?

Luckily I have a great wife that also plays Magic so she understands my passion for the game and therefore tries to accommodate me when I need to test for an event.

I do get to play fewer hours a week but having a daughter is the most rewarding thing I've ever experienced. She makes my everyday life so much more joyful and playing less Magic has actually made me appreciate the games much more, so I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to tone it down.

You decided to join the ranks of Snapcardster, which we are obviously very happy about. Can you tell us why you wanted to play on this team and about your initial impression of the organization behind?

I’m very excited to join this team, I’ve known the team members for a while and I think we will get along quite nice. I believe we have gathered the best players Danish Magic can offer so I’m confident that we will compete.

Snapcardster have been very accommodating to our needs and they seem very efficient in everything they do. I hope this continues in the future and that we can work together for years to come, I for one am very excited about it.

Lastly, I want to hear about your personal goals for the upcoming season.

Personally I hope to make at least Gold level, anything less would not be good enough - but more than that I hope our team can place at the top of the Team Series. We didn’t sign up just to participate – we are there to win this thing!

Thank you so much for taking time out of the busy daddy schedule for this interview. We can't wait to see you represent Snapcardster in the future!

Any time.
