Rhystic Study: Tishana, Voice of Thunder

Tishana, Voice of Thunder

Greetings, chosen one... Welcome to the 46th column of "Rhystic Study"!

The full card list for Ixlana is out and Tishana, Voice of Thunder is one of the most promising Legendary Creatures to arise. Despite it being a Merfolk, its ability is most suited in an Elves shell. Let's take a look at what this powerful Commander has to offer!

Building Blocks #1: Elves

Tishana, Voice of Thunder is an explosive deck that seeks to ramp mana, draw cards, and then drop a win condition. It is a lot like the Elves decks in Legacy or Modern, which is why here are the best cards for this shell, among other selections.

Take note that we should aim to keep our creature count high and have at least over 40 creatures!

Llanowar Elves Elvish Mystic Joraga Treespeaker Elvish Archdruid Heritage Druid Birchlore Rangers Priest of Titania Imperious Perfect Viridian Shaman Rishkar, Peema Renegade Wirewood Symbiote Fyndhorn Elves

Building Blocks #2: Win Conditions

Aside from Tishana, Voice of Thunder to draw your entire hand back, there are a bunch of win conditions that we are looking out for! Here are some of the big spells with the biggest impact!

Regal Force Craterhoof Behemoth Beastmaster Ascension Ezuri, Renegade Leader Kindred Summons Genesis Wave

Any of these cards, coupled with a board of little Elves can usually lead to victory! But aside from drawing them, what other ways can we find these important win conditions?

Building Blocks #3: Tutors

Thankfully, Green has a solid range of tutors, which makes this deck really consistent. Aside from casting your Commander when you're out of gas, you can also tutor for key cards using the following spells. In particular, the land tutors will go for Gaea's Cradle, which significantly boosts the power of your turns!

Worldly Tutor Sylvan Tutor Summoner's Pact Eldritch Evolution Natural Order Expedition Map Sylvan Scrying Crop Rotation Chord of Calling Green Sun's Zenith Tooth and Nail Elvish Harbinger Fierce Empath

Building Blocks #4: Other Synergy

With the general idea in mind, here are some other cards that also go with Tishana, Voice of Thunder very well!

For example, Growing Rites of Itlimoc not only helps you find a creature, but transforms into Gaea's Cradle later. Prime Speaker Zegana allows you to draw more cards, while Deadeye Navigator paired with Prime Speaker Zegana is truly madness.

Since we don't have a lot of artifacts or enchantments, you can rely on Bane of Progress to wreck opponents. Skullclamp allows you to trade unwanted bodies for more cards, while token generators such as Avenger of Zendikar work so well with our Commander!

Tishana, Voice of Thunder has a very powerful ability, and you can build this deck to be casual or competitive.

To make it even more spike-y, shave away the high-costed cards and replace them with cheaper cards.  For example, you remove Zendikar's Resurgent, Disallow, Mulldrifter, or Voidslime, to play cards like Nettle Sentinel, Copperhorn Scout, Edric, Skymaster of Trest and even Arbor Elf!

Whatever it is, casting Tishana, Voice of Thunder to refill your hand is one of the best things you can do in Commander, and I encourage you to give it a try!
