Rhystic Study: Taigam, Sidisi's Hand

Taigam, Sidisi's Hand

Greetings, chosen one... Welcome to the 45th column of "Rhystic Study"!

While waiting on the full card list of Ixalan (to see if we can build a Pirate or Dinosaur deck), let's tinker with Taigam, Sidisi's Hand in the meantime. Similar to Drana, Kalastria BloodchiefTaigam, Sidisi's Hand has the ability to dominate the board all by itself, while providing a steady stream of card selection. This Commander is great for a dedicated control deck, and that is what we are trying to do.

Building Blocks #1: Classic Control Cards

Taigam, Sidisi's Hand is a control deck, so we would like to start off with some of the most iconic control cards in the history of Magic. You should likely own most of these cards, and putting them together should not be all that difficult. Not only are they effective and efficient, they are also powerful even in multiplayer games of three to five players!

Brainstorm Counterspell Force of Will Capsize Forbid Exclude Fact or Fiction Deep Analysis Mana Drain

Building Blocks #2: Graveyard-Friendly Cards

Not only are we filling up the graveyard for Taigam, Sidisi's Hand, we can also play some cards that work well with that theme. For example, flashback cards work great with Taigam, and so do delve cards!

Deep Analysis Forbidden Alchemy Mystical Teachings Dig Through Time Treasure Cruise Murderous Cut

What other cards can you think of which are good for dumping into the graveyard? Incarnations? Reanimation spells? Aftermath? The possibilities are endless, you just have to be creative!

Building Blocks #3: Removal

One of the biggest advantages of a Blue-Black deck is the ability to pack both counterspells and removal. In particular, we'd like to focus on some of the best spot removal and board sweepers to keep our opponent's boards in check. Whether you want to kill a particular creature or to erase the board, we have plenty of options.

Damnation Decree of Pain Go for the Throat Damnation Silumgar's Command Hero's Downfall Toxic Deluge Far // Away Cyclonic Rift

Building Blocks #4: Big Win Conditions

Now that we've got so many good control decks in the deck, let's find some big and impactful win conditions to close out the game! Alternatively, you can also suit up Taigam, Sidisi's Hand with Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots just to chip away at your opponents!

Mind's Dilation Blatant Thievery Expropriate Diluvian Primordial Sepulchral Primordial Torrential Gearhulk

The Final Product!

Taigam, Sidisi's Hand is not particularly revolutionary, but it is very fun to play. The enjoyment you get from selecting from among three cards each turn, while also killing an opponent's creature every turn is a powerful engine in itself. It also has a very solid mana base, a lot of cantrips, and a lot of counterspells and removal, which makes it a well-rounded strategy. Take Taigam for a spin, you might just fall in love with it very quickly and join the dark side!
