Rhystic Study: Azor, the Lawbringer

Greetings, chosen one... Welcome to the 54th column of "Rhystic Study"! Today is all about the law, because we'll be building around Azor, the Lawbringer. It has a potent ability and allows you to reload your hand with even just a single attack. As such, there is a lot of pressure on your opponents to kill Azor immediately. Otherwise, you can just tap all your mana and draw a bunch of cards, and then the damage is done.

This deck is going to take on a White-Blue control strategy, where we play very few creatures, but lots of card drawing, counterspells, and removal. The deck plays very defensively, and the aim is to prolong the game for as long as possible.

Once you reach 10 or more mana, a single attack from Azor, the Lawbringer can draw you enough cards to overwhelm even three or four opponents.

Let's start with some fast mana!

Sol Ring Thran Dynamo Gilded Lotus Hedron Archive Mana Crypt Everflowing Chalice

Next, we're going to select some of the best removal (both spot removal and mass removal) in the game! These are some of Azorius's signature cards!

Swords to Plowshares Cyclonic Rift Supreme Verdict Return to Dust Dismantling Blow Path to Exile Austere Command Detention Sphere Azorius Charm

Next, we want to prolong the game as long as possible. Here are some annoying permanents that can slow down your opponent's significantly while you get ahead on mana, to cast your Commander and activate it!

Ghostly Prison Propaganda Crawlspace Aura of Silence Rhystic Study Windborn Muse

Next, we want to add some protection for your Commander, since it is such a crucial part of your game plan. Because White is really good with equipment, let's throw in Steepshaper's Gift, Stoneforge Mystic, and Open the Armory! The first thing you wish to go for is usually Lightning GreavesSwiftfoot Boots, or Champion's Helm.

Once you give Azor, the Lawbringer hexproof, you'll be able to draw tons of cards turn after turn. Then, when you have the luxury of time, you can even drop Sword of Feast and Famine on it, and untap all your lands after you trigger "Sphinx's Revelation! Broken!

Lightning Greaves Swiftfoot Boots Champion's Helm Steelshaper's Gift Stoneforge Mystic Enlightened Tutor Open the Armory Sword of Feast and Famine

This deck is quite a competitive deck, with many important staples from Legacy and Modern! The curve is low and makes use of the most efficient cards in the environment. I hope you'll enjoy drawing a bunch of cards with Azor, the Lawbringer. Don't forget your Thought VesselVenser's Journal, or Reliquary Tower!
