Holistic Wisdom: 7 Cool Reprints in Commander 2016

Every year, exciting Commander decks are released and it features exciting new cards for all 100-card enthusiasts. This time round, the most important news are the introduction of numerous four-colored possibilities, thanks to a bunch of four-colored Legendary creatures as well as a ton of new Legendary creatures with the new mechanic, "Partner"!

However, let's take a look at what are the best reprints hidding within these box sets! Some of them will cool down hefty price tags, while others have revamped and awesome artwork!

7th: Master of Etherium

Master of Etherium

We have no idea what kind of impact Master of Etherium will have in the "Invent Superiority" deck alongside Breya, Etherium Shaper, but it will be nice to have another way to pick them up for Modern Affinity decks!

Prices have gone down a little and you no longer have to rely on Shards of Alara booster packs or Elpeth vs. Tezzeret Duel Decks!

6th: Ghostly Prison

Ghostly Prison

Ghostly Prison is an important card in Commander. You really want to discourage players from attacking you and being forced to spend two extra mana (when your opponents can simply attack someone else) is really annoying. At one point, the Champions of Kamigawa uncommon reached double digit price tags but thanks to Conspiracy: Take the Crown and to lesser effect Commander 2016, you'll find it at an affordable $2 - $3 a piece!

5th: Hellkite Tyrant

Hellkite Tyrant

If there is one dragon that should see play in every single red deck, it should be Hellkite Tyrant. There are tons of artifacts to steal in this format and clearing your opponent's out of precious mana rocks, combo enablers and even artifact creatures is one sure way to dominate the board.

Conveniently, it is also a win condition on its own. As a mythic rare from Gatecrash, we're happy to see it return in Commander 2016!

4th: Kalonian Hydra

Kalonian Hydra

As far as hydras go, Kalonian Hydra has held the "title" for being the most expensive hydra for a while, largely because the word "double" on its rules text tends to also "double" its price tag. A popular card among many casual players, this reprint will make a lot of Johnnies and Timmy very happy indeed!

3rd: Scavenging Ooze

Scavenging Ooze

Another Legacy and Modern staple making its way into Commander 2016, and a very important one as well!

Funny story! When Scavenging Ooze was first printed in the very first Commander set in 2011, it was one of the most sought after singles within the box sets, fetching a hefty pricetag of over $30! However, it was deemed good enough to print in the 2014 Core Set, drastically slashing down the prices to the joy of numerous Legacy players. And now, with yet another wave of printing, everyone can have affordable Scavenging Oozes!

2nd: Thopter Foundry

Thopter Foundry

Ever since Sword of the Meek got unbanned, that drove up both its prices as well as partner-in-crime Thopter Foundry. With hybrid mana symbols in its mana cost, there was no clean way to reprint it in any set that did not utilize hybrid mana symbols.

Thankfully, in Commander sets, there are no rules and no boundaries and most players will not be surprised to see it returning in this manner.

1st: Chromatic Lanter

Chromatic Lantern

It is unbelievable how important Chromatic Lantern is in Commander. The best three-mana mana rock is probably Coalition Relic, but alternatives such as Worn Powerstone, Commander's Sphere and Darksteel Ingot won't suffice. However, none of them fixes mana as elegantly as Chromatic Lantern, and in the wake of all the four-color Commanders surfacing, I've got a feeling you'll want to draw your Chromatic Lantern more frequently than before!
